Expectations of Being a Member

We strongly encourage all members to attend our monthly General Meeting to keep up-to-date with all the happenings of the club. The meeting concludes with the drawing of the raffle, a show n’ tell and cuppa and chat. As a financial member, you will receive our monthly newsletter via email which will give all the information for the month ahead. Make sure you check it out!

The Club and Toy Workshop Sessions are run on the third Saturday of each month. Members are invited to come and assist in making toys for charities and helping with the general maintenance of the clubrooms and workshop. Many hands make light work!

Throughout the year, the club is asked to attend several events like; KidsFest, Merrigum Heritage Day, Bunnings Father’s Day Launch, Markets and more. We are also often asked to assist with smaller activities in the region as well. Members will be asked to volunteer and put their names down for these events.

Each year the club holds an annual raffle that is drawn at our Woodshow. It is an expectation that all members will sell one raffle book and help staff our raffle stalls set up at Fairley’s IGA, Marketplace and Riverside Plaza. Timetables and more information are sent out with the raffle tickets each year.

Our annual Woodworking Show is the largest of its kind in Regional Victoria and has a strong reputation. As it is so large and run over two days, it is all-hands-on-deck in the lead up, setting up, running of and packing up of the show. We ask members to spare some time and muscles to help with the set-up and pack-up and also to staff stalls at the show and if you’re comfortable demonstrate a skill or two.

Induction

All new members must complete a full induction of the clubrooms, workshop and policies and procedures. This can be organised through our Induction Coordinator - Chris Harvey 0407 320 102, at a time that suits you and Chris.

Along with the induction, new members are required to fill in their accreditation page each time they attend the workshop and use machinery. The supervisor of the day will sign you off on any machinery they have supervised you using. Once you have been signed off 10 times, you are then accredited to use the machinery with minimal supervision. This is regularly reviewed to make sure all members are using machinery safely.
